Three-phase UPS Solutions Builder

Enter the load, voltage, runtime and redundancy. The builder shows the capacity to plan for, the battery energy, generator notes and the systems that fit, with every assumption on the page. Indicative sizing. Confirmed by our engineer before any quote.

How the builder sizes a system

Load in kVA becomes kW through the load power factor. The design load adds your growth allowance, and the capacity to plan for keeps the steady load at or under 80 % of the UPS rating. N+1 adds one unit or power module; 2N is two complete systems, each able to carry the whole load.

Battery energy is sized for end of life. For VRLA the energy is multiplied by 1.25, the lead-acid aging factor (a battery is replaced at 80 % of its rated capacity), plus a 10 % design margin; for lithium-ion the end-of-life factor comes from the battery maker's data. Battery cabinets are then chosen from the maker's constant-power discharge tables at the end voltage.

At 600 V the builder sizes a 480 V UPS fed through a 600:480 V isolation transformer; native 600 V models also exist, and our engineer can propose one (see our 600 V three-phase UPS guide). For new systems we recommend Xtreme Power Conversion (XPC) and Delta; for existing Eaton, APC, Vertiv, Mitsubishi and Toshiba systems the builder points to service, battery work and replacement planning.

Common questions

Is the builder result a quote?

No. It is indicative sizing. Our engineer confirms the load, the site and the battery tables before any written quote, and we reply within 4 business hours.

Why plan for more capacity than my load?

The design load adds your growth allowance, and the UPS should run at or under 80 % of its rating so it has headroom for inrush and future equipment.

How is battery runtime calculated?

The battery must still deliver the runtime at end of life. For VRLA, replaced at 80 % of its rated capacity, the builder multiplies the energy by 1.25 and adds a 10 % margin; for lithium-ion our engineer applies the battery maker's end-of-life data.

Can I size a 600 V system?

Yes. The builder sizes a 480 V UPS fed through a 600:480 V isolation transformer. Native 600 V models also exist, for example the Eaton Power Xpert 9395P, and our engineer can propose one.
