Eaton and Powerware UPS preventive maintenance

Eaton's own 91PS/93PS guide says the UPS requires very little preventive maintenance, then asks for periodic inspection of the units and the batteries, with bolted connections re-torqued periodically. A maintenance visit does that properly on 93PM, 93PS, Power Xpert 9395, 9355 and older Powerware-badged systems, and leaves a written report with every reading.

Key facts

What Eaton's guide asks for

The 93PS guide splits the work in two. Daily and monthly checks are for the site team: keep the area around the UPS clear, make sure the air intakes on the front doors and the exhaust at the back are not blocked, check the status indicators, wash or replace the optional air filters when needed, and record the results in a service log. Annual preventive maintenance and battery maintenance are for service personnel. Periodically, the UPS is inspected for components, wiring and connections showing evidence of overheating, with particular attention to bolted connections.

What our visit checks

The written report lists each reading next to the previous visit, the faults found and cleared, and what to budget for next.

How an annual visit is booked and reported is explained in our maintenance visit program, and the maintenance plan request form takes the model list for a multi-site quote.

Batteries: the part that ages

The 93PS guide recommends an operating temperature of +20 °C to +25 °C to maximize battery service life. Eaton's warranty covers batteries against failures in material and workmanship, not against normal aging and loss of ampere-hour capacity, so the yearly readings are what tell you when a string is due. A string is replaced as a set, never a block at a time.

Public sector and multi-site fleets

Hospitals, universities and government sites often buy Eaton maintenance through a tender or a standing offer. We quote that work with the visit schedule, the report format and the coverage each site needs: public sector UPS service and UPS maintenance contracts.

Coverage

Same-day service in Montreal, Quebec City, Toronto and Ottawa; 24 to 48 hours elsewhere in Canada. We reply and quote within 4 business hours. Tell us the brand, the model and the symptom or the visit you need, and the quote comes back with the scope and the date.

All Eaton service: Eaton and Powerware UPS service. When something fails between visits: Eaton UPS repair. Other brands: APC preventive maintenance and Liebert preventive maintenance.

Common questions

How often should an Eaton UPS be maintained?

Eaton's 93PS guide asks for daily and monthly checks by the site team and an annual preventive maintenance visit by service personnel. Older battery strings or a dusty room justify a second visit in the year.

What can our own staff check between visits?

The checks Eaton's guide gives the user: clear access around the UPS, unblocked air intakes and exhaust, the status indicators, the optional air filters, and a service log of the results.

Do you maintain Powerware units?

Yes. Older Powerware-badged systems get the same visit as current Eaton models.

Do you quote Eaton maintenance for public tenders?

Yes. We quote public-sector maintenance with the schedule, the report format and the coverage the tender asks for.

What is in the report?

Every reading next to the previous visit, the alarms found and cleared, the battery condition block by block, and what to plan for next.
